Studi Socio-Environmental dan Financial Analysis Tidal

NZMATES supported tidal current research in the Saparua Strait and Rosenberg Strait, Tual, Southeast Maluku in 2023 conducted in cooperation between Engineering Faculty, Pattimura University (UNPATTI) and Engineering faculty, Victoria University of Wellington (VUW). As a follow-up to this research, further studies are being carried out with studi socio-environmental and financial analysis tidal. This includes assessing energy resources and estimating the Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE). Future tidal current research could provide a solution to Maluku’s electricity issues.

In this study, NZMATES, in collaboration with the Maluku Province’s Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), aims to assess the social and environmental impacts of marine current power plants are implemented in the province. Additionally, to understand the economic feasibility, the study will examine the application of marine current technology.

Currently, Maluku Province has the second-lowest electrification ratio in Indonesia at just 93%, with 99% of its electricity sourced from fossil-fuel power plants. The Maluku region, dominated by vast ocean areas, holds significant untapped renewable energy potential, particularly from ocean currents.

Based on this potential, BAPPEDA Maluku, together with NZMATES, is committed to conducting several studies as a follow-up to the tidal current research. These studies will include Social and Environmental Studies, Financial Feasibility Studies, and Interconnection Studies. All studies will be funded and led by BAPPEDA Maluku through its research and development sector. The social, environmental, and financial analysis studies will be carried out under BAPPEDA’s 2024 budget, while the interconnection study will be conducted with the 2025 budget.
