Study on Mapping of Potential and Existing Infrastructure Renewable Energy

Maluku Province boasts abundant renewable energy resources. However, the region remains heavily reliant on fossil-fuel power plants. NZMATES programme is currently conducting an evaluation study of renewable energy potential, covering hydropower, geothermal, solar, wind, and marine current energy technologies, with modelling tailored to Maluku’s specific conditions.

The study involves gathering data from the Provincial Government of Maluku, a key NZMATES partner, as well as previous research and other credible sources. As part of this evaluation, infrastructure mapping is being carried out to identify supporting facilities, including existing power plants and networks. The outcome of this study will include a centralised database of renewable energy infrastructure, an annotated bibliography of energy resources, and a dashboard showcasing potential energy development sites and available facilities.

By improving data quality and fostering strategic planning, this initiative by NZMATES aims to position Maluku Province as a leader in renewable energy development, paving the way for a cleaner and more sustainable electricity system.
