On July 4th, 2022, NZMATES held the inauguration ceremony of the Pūngao Pattimura Mini-grid Training Lab. The inauguration ceremony was attended by representatives from Bappeda Maluku, PLN, Dinas ESDM Maluku, and Pattimura University. The event started with online remarks from the New Zealand Ambassador to Indonesia, Kevin Burnett, as well as in-person speeches from the Head of Bappeda Maluku, Dr. Anton Lailossa S.T., M.Si., and Rector UNPATTI, Prof. Dr. M.J. Saptenno S.H., M.Hum. Head of Bappeda Maluku marked the occasion with ribbon cutting in front of the lab, and a tour of the solar lab facilities followed.
Pūngao means energy in the Māori language of Aotearoa New Zealand, and the outcome expected from the solar lab is that Maluku energy enthusiasts will make the most of the lab's complete training facilities, particularly in increasing solar PV training opportunities in Maluku.
The first solar lab in Maluku, it connects to a solar PV array and battery energy storage system (BESS), and houses state-of-the-art solar training and measurement tools and equipment.
