Training for Solar Power Plant Operators and Youth of Pulau Tiga

Although the 75 kWp microgrid solar power plant revitalisation project on Pulau Tiga has been completed, the project does not stop at the physical construction alone. The local community also needs to be empowered and educated on how to operate the existing solar power system. This ensures they can help maintain the assets. Therefore, New Zealand Maluku Access to Renewable Energy Support (NZMATES), in collaboration with PT Deltamas Solusindo as the contractor, provided solar power plant training to the youth on 11 June 2024. Ten young people, both boys and girls aged 15-17, attended the training.

The youth were chosen to build a basic understanding of renewable energy, the solar power system and its components, as well as recognising potential hazards in the Pulau Tiga solar power plant environment. Given their close association with renewable energy, it is hoped that they will actively participate in the energy sector, particularly renewable energy, in the future. This would provide the youth of Pulau Tiga with opportunities and allow them to compete in the technical industry. Additionally, they were taught how to use and maintain safe electrical systems at home and in the solar power plant. During the training, the young participants found it easy to remember the material presented by the trainers.

In addition to the training for the youth, training was also provided to two operators of the Pulau Tiga solar power plant, two PLN Nusa Daya staff, and PLN UP3 Ambon staff, on 12-13 June 2024. Over the two days, they received an introduction to basic electrical concepts, an overview of the entire system, O&M procedures, emergency shutdown processes, and solar power plant monitoring and troubleshooting using Sunny Portal and SCADA. The operators and PLN staff engaged in extensive discussions on how to monitor system indicators in both normal and abnormal conditions. This knowledge is crucial so that, in the event of any issues, the operators can carry out appropriate troubleshooting.
